I participated in our school's exceptionality fair which brought the latest research on several of the most important disabilities and exceptionalities to the table. I collaborated with a group covering Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and presented it to my colleagues and York Faculty. We spoke about the prevalence of the disorder and how teachers can accommodate for students who posses it.
I attended a workshop on self-advocacy where we considered the importance of advocating for one's self and how we must encourage our students to be their own advocates in life. We found that students with Exceptionalities are great at self-advocacy because they're required to do it on a daily basis.

This Professional Development put on by my host School taught us the importance of social ques and how parents and educators must teach their children/students how to act socially. It was something I had always assumed was common sense and I believed students who could not make friends were just more introverted. In reality, some students just had not figured out how to make friends or were not able to notice certain social ques in order to initiate relationships.
